A frost covered barn photographed on a very cold October morning in Tucker County, WV.
I remember well how cold it was the day this image was made, wish we could pipe some into July of 2011.
I’ve been playing around with images from the past couple years, and occasionally coming across something worthy of posting. This image is an alternate take on one of my more popular recent efforts titled “Frosty Leaves”.
I made this image of frost-covered hay bales on a recent cold Sunday morning in Calhoun County, West Virginia.
As is often the case when driving around taking photos, I stopped in the middle of the road and stuck my camera out the window to grab this one. Luckily, though, when you’re driving in Calhoun County, West Virginia, you can actually get away with stopping in the middle of the road to take photos. I don’t think I passed two cars in two hours on the back country roads I was travelling on. God I love this state!
My vision for this blog has primarily been as a place to share new work, some of which I plan to print and include in my portfolio. But it’s also the perfect place to roll out images that I’m on the fence about, or that I feel are interesting and/or humorous but am unsure whether or not to ultimately print.
So, as a result, it’s becoming somewhat of a proving ground, a place to collect and display images that are lying on the fringes of my print queue. Images that have never quite made the cut but that I can’t quite let go of. It’s nice to think that sometimes even a played out mine can yield a nugget or two.
The following image was taken last fall at Blackwater Falls State Park in Tucker County, West Virginia. I’ve never made a print from this photograph, but it still catches my eye from time to time as a browse photos on my hard drive. So, here it is for the blogosphere to consider.
God help us all, I am now a blogger.
I hope to be able to post new photography about once per week, give or take. Some of these images will ultimately make it into print, but many will be uploaded for discussion purposes or to simply try out new ideas. The image below was taken on a very cold October morning at Blackwater Falls State Park, WV.
