The capitol city of Charleston, West Virginia, is situated on a flat terrace above the Kanawha River that was once fertile farmland.  Most of this land is now utilized for housing and heavy industry, and today you are hard pressed to find any remnant of the area’s agricultural past in the vicinity.  This image was made adjacent to Interstate 79 about 15 miles north of downtown Charleston.
