A Photographic Study of All Things West Virginia

Abandoned 15

I’m not actually seeking out abandoned dwellings when I go on photography trips, but I’m sure it probably seems that way.  I’m perfectly content to photograph nature scenes, barns, farms, etc., all the pretty sights one might see on a nice drive through the countryside.

But when I do come across an abandoned building, wow, I can really hear that siren call.  It is an irresistible urge to explore the endlessly fascinating decrepit remnants of days past.  And here in rural West Virginia there are lots of these places around, each one unique and calling out to be preserved in a photograph before time scrubs all traces of their existence away.

This particular abandoned home, cleverly dubbed “Abandoned 15”, is located along Broad Run Road near Left Hand in Roane County, WV.

  1. Lilly,

Don’t make any apollogies for your abandoned building images, they are great. I love the look of those building. I get the same buzz when I come across them when I travel in Maryland. They are fun to explore and wonder what they were like when they were active. Keep up the good work.

  2. Nice, what were your setting or touch ups on this(if any)?

    • Hey Chris, thanks for the comment! This image was made with an Olympus E-510, exposure was 1/20th sec at ISO 200, camera on a tripod. Not much in the way of touchups, a bit of brightening and contrast was added.
