A Photographic Study of All Things West Virginia

Hoop Dreams 2

Basketball hoop bolted to a defunct telephone pole in the middle of an overgrown field.

There were no residences within a mile of this location, so it’s reason for existence in the field was somewhat of a mystery.  There was some active mountaintop removal coal mining taking place nearby, so my only guess is that it was erected and then abandoned by miners/contractors.

Second installment in a planned series, to be photographed as I come across them.

  2. Hey, thanks Markus- there weren’t any kids nearby, or even homes for that matter, so it’s a mystery what this hoop is doing out in the middle of a field.

  3. Great find, Michael, and well framed. There don’t seem to be to many kids around there anymore, or are they all glued to their WIIs and the like? Some time ago I found a similar abandoned hoop on the island of Krk

    • Also wanted to tell you that I loved your island of Krk image, what a great and unusual setting for an abandoned hoop.
