No Inspection

Pretty sure this former service station hasn’t offered inspections, or any other services for that matter, in a number of years.

(Another note to self:  Pay attention to reflections in window glass)

US Rte 60 Waterfall

This roadside waterfall along US Rte 60 near Glen Ferris, WV, normally runs at a trickle, but I was lucky enough to catch it at a higher flow recently after persistent rain.

As far as I know this waterfall does not have a name, but if anyone local knows differently I’d be happy to hear from you.

Doorway

Doorway on a rustic building in downtown Montgomery, West Virginia.   Love the textures and patterns found on these old brick structures, each seems to offer something unique.

Backus Mountain Barn

Sifting through images from a photo expedition a few weeks back.  I’m missing autumn already.

This image was made on a dreary day along a lonely country road in Fayette County, West Virginia.

Laurel Creek #2

Another shot of Laurel Creek in Fayette County, WV, from a few weeks ago.  This stream is part of the New River Gorge National River.

Laurel Creek #1

Through the years I’ve spent countless happy hours fishing for trout in the mountain streams of West Virginia, but these days I’m more apt to be armed with a camera than a fishing pole when I’m in the area.  This particular stream is fed by cold water from abandoned upstream coal mines, but instead of being the ecological disaster that you might expect it is in fact an excellent brown trout fishery.

Pipe Rivets

It is often said that photography makes you study the world around you a bit closer.  I can attest that this assertion is a fact, as in the case of the image below my photographic muse forced me to carefully study and photograph rivets on an otherwise nondescript and unremarkable steel pipe.  You know, line, form, texture, and all that.

Kanawha Mist

Early morning mist rising from the Kanawha River at Glen Ferris, West Virginia.  I love this time of year.
